Juvederm - Filler
Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel form of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring substance already present in your skin that normally helps add volume and hydration. It can be injected by Dr. Chow into areas of the face with moderate to severe wrinkles or depressions, adding volume to the skin and smoothing unsightly lines.
Many areas of the face may be treated, although the most common are the nasolabial and melolabial folds, which are often called "smile lines" and "marionette lines," the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth and then down on either side of your chin. At the Chow Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, other uses of Juvederm include lip enhancement, contouring of the face and nose, deep lines or wrinkles on other areas of the face, and even depressed (usually acne) scars. Most patients need just one treatment to see improvement, and results last between 9 months to a year.
In patients with very deep folds, Dr. Chow may use the Bi-layer Technique, which uses both Radiesse and Juvederm to provide excellent volume replacement. At your consultation, Dr. Chow will examine your facial contours and prepare a customized treatment plan for your unique wants and needs.
For those desiring augmentation of features, such as the bridge of the nose or fuller lips, fillers may also provide a safe, simple alternative to surgery.
Most side effects of Juvederm are mild or moderate in nature, and last less than a week. The most common side effects include redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, itching, and discoloration of the injected area. As with any skin injection, there is a small risk of infection. Your skin will be carefully cleaned prior to injection to minimize this possibility.
If you have a history of significant allergies, specifically a history of anaphylaxis or presence of multiple severe allergic reactions, Juvederm may not be for you.

There is no extended recovery time, and makeup can be reapplied before leaving the office. Some transient bruising may occur. To reduce the risk of such bruising, avoidance of aspirin, ibuprofen, alleve, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications is recommended. In addition, natural supplements such as ginger, garlic, ginkobelova, and ginseng may increase your risk of bruising.
